Oriel y Crochenwyr - The Potters' Gallery, (North Wales Potters' Co-Operative Gallery and Information Centre Ltd)
was set up in 2003 by a small group of members of North Wales Potters Association, a group that has been running for twenty eight years. We are a co-operative gallery run by the artists - the potters, and are the only specialist ceramics gallery in North Wales.
We have about twenty makers in the gallery, and we take it in turn to staff the gallery on a rota basis. We are all volunteers, whose aims are to promote standards of excellence in ceramics, both technical and aesthetic, and to educate the visiting public, giving them as much information as possible on all things to do with ceramics.
We are also an information centre on all things to do with ceramics: books to buy and browse through, kilns and wheels for sale, courses available in the North Wales area on ceramics .You can also join the North Wales Potters' Association, which runs a full education programme throughout the year. The potters' gallery also runs a full programme of exhibitions, showing our members’ work.
North Wales Potters' Gallery has many wonderful things to see, little gems big and small: prancing horses and other wonderful creatures; rustic, warm, thrown pots; sunshine-filled, brightly-coloured earthenware; green men that peer between robust nudes, coiled with care and skill; agate-ware full of swirls of different coloured clay on thin slices of porcelain; sensual, thrown porcelain with celadon glaze; sea-life forms and organic natural pieces can be found to stimulate the visiting public.
The gallery also offers the chance to buy with ‘Principality Collectorplan’, run by the Arts Council of Wales, whereby you can purchase any item you fancy and pay over ten months, interest-free. (The item must cost over sixty pounds).
